The Clerk of District Court is responsible for maintaining and preserving the records of the Platte County District Court. Our goal is to provide prompt, courteous and accurate service.

The Clerk of District Court has a variety of duties including receiving, accounting for and paying over all money that comes into the possession of the District Court. The Clerk of District Court maintains the records in all felony criminal cases, including receipting and distributing restitution, fines and fees.

In addition to civil matters over $50,000, the Clerk of District Court is responsible for the records in all domestic relations, juvenile, probate and adoption cases.

The Clerk of District Court has additional duties of receiving and distributing child support as ordered by the Court and accepting passport applications.

The Clerk of District Court is responsible for overseeing all jury trials held in the District Court.

The Clerk of District Court's duties also include the administration of appeals. In the appeal process, the District Court can serve as either the trial court or appellate court. The Clerk of District Court must comply with the rules of appellate procedure by either submitting the record on appeal to the higher court or receiving the record on appeal from an agency or lower court.

The Clerk of District Court is often asked to help or advise persons how to proceed in a pending case. The role of the Clerk of District Court as the record-keeper of the court is clearly defined by law, our role is not to act as a legal advisor or to provide legal guidance to parties in matters before the court.
