Welcome to Platte County
Platte County is located in the Southeast corner of Wyoming and covers 2085 square miles. The
county seat is Wheatland, Wyoming. Our population as of July 2008 was 8294.
Our residents are proud of their heritage and are proud to call Platte County home. We are close to
the bigger city advantages provided by Cheyenne, Laramie and Casper, but we still get to take advantage
of the small-town living all of us enjoy.
Platte County consists of five towns, Wheatland, Guernsey, Glendo, Chugwater and Hartville as well as
their outlying areas. Our small communities consist of a wide variety of people from farmers and ranchers
to musicians and authors.
We are a prominent agricultural community with several historic sites and many outdoor recreation
opportunities in our many beautiful locations.
Platte County is the home of Laramie River Station which provides electric power to urban and rural
Americans in eight different states. We also have a completely renovated, state-of-the-art hospital,
Platte County Memorial Hospital.
