Job Description:

Performs administrative work conducting the daily business activities of the County Treasurer’s Office including financial management and statutory Treasurer functions.

  • Performs various administrative functions related to the collection and disbursement of fees relating to motor vehicle and property tax collection for Platte County.  Updates property tax, motor vehicle and customer records through computer input.
  • Performs quality public service in person or on the telephone with friendliness, responsiveness, and tact.  Professionally corresponds with customers via e-mail or mail.  Answers phone and provide information and assistance to the public on request.  Assist public by answering questions, researching records, or directing them to the appropriate person.
  • Receives and receipts monies from other departments for deposit into county general revenue accounts.
  • Maintains public trust by keeping information confidential as appropriate.
  • Does filing, labeling, copying and mailings as needed.  Sorts, distributes and processes mail.
  • Properly handles cash and gives correct change according to office policy; balances to the penny against receipts; prepares and balances deposits; run tapes on checks and cash.
  • Performs assigned additional job-related duties and responsibilities as needed.

Expectations:

  • Must possess a working knowledge of office practices and procedures, ensuring all related tasks are completed to meet the goals of the Treasurer’s Office.
  • Keeps the County Treasurer informed of key operating issues affecting the office.
  • Demonstrate the consistent accuracy and organization needed to complete timely data entry in the required format.
  • Make sure quality customer service to the public is being offered.
  • Maintain a professional work environment and businesslike appearance at all times.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers within the Department, other County Departments as well as other entities we deal with such as Title Companies, Mortgage Companies, Tax Services, etc.

Knowledge and Skills:

Education: High school diploma or GED

Interpersonal Skills: Courtesy, tact and diplomacy are essential elements of the job.  Work involves personal contact with others inside and/or outside the county for the purpose of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, making reports or soliciting cooperation.

A strong candidate will possess excellent time management, superior verbal and written communication skills, have experience managing multiple tasks at various stages, possess excellent organizational skills, and show the ability to provide quality customer service to all customers.

Other Skills: Knowledge of accounting and budget practices; money handling, computer literacy; 10-key; excellent customer service skills and the ability to work independently with little direct supervision.  Must thrive in a team environment.  Job requires periodic dealings with difficult customers.  Must be detail oriented, thorough and possess strong problem-solving skills.  Position requires critical thinking and strong written and verbal communication skills.
