Job Description:

The Platte County Road & Bridge Department will accept applications for a “fleet mechanic and repair specialist” until filled. This position is full-time position generally 40 hours a week hours Monday – Thursday from 6:30am to 4:30PM. Benefits include medical, comp time for any hours worked over 40 a week, vacation accrual of 8 hours a month and 8 hours sick time per month, retirement benefits, and good work environment. Pay starts at $3,500 - $3,700 per month. Applications can be delivered to the Platte County Road and Bridge Office or Office of County Clerk.

The Road and Bridge fleet mechanic should be someone that is professionally responsible, self-starter, fabricator, and maintainer who will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing the Platte County Road and Bridge vehicles and fleet. The primary goal is to ensure business operations run smoothly, minimize vehicle downtime, and guarantee that all trucks, heavy equipment, or other associated equipment are safe and legally compliant. Applicants must also be capable of performing various other duties under the direction of the Platte County Road and Bridge Superintendent, with minimal supervision.  Applicants must have a valid Wyoming Commercial Drivers’ License (CDL) or be able to obtain one within six months of employment. CDL course and cost can be paid by the county. Welding and fabrication experience is preferred. Applicants must be willing to submit to and pass government regulated drug testing prior to employment.

The Platte County Road and Bridge vehicle fleet is comprised of: 14 pickups, 5 Semi trucks, 6 Road Graders, 2 tractors, 11 trailers of various types, and 14 other various pieces of equipment to include a bucket truck, 2 Loaders, 1 backhoe, and various types and styles of plows and rollers.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Preventative Maintenance: Conducting routine checks (oil changes, brake adjustments, and tire
    rotations) to prevent unexpected roadside breakdowns.

  • Diagnostics & Repair: Using diagnostic equipment to identify and resolve issues with
    engines, transmissions, electrical systems, and hydraulics.

  • Safety Compliance: Ensuring every vehicle meets local, state, and federal Department
    of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

  • Record Keeping: Maintaining detailed logs of maintenance history, parts inventory,
    and upcoming service needs.

  • Emergency Response: Traveling to make remote or roadside repairs if a vehicle breaks down.
