The County Assessor's office is an information gathering office. We use the information we gather about properties to ensure the County's valuation is set accurately each year. The Assessor's office is responsible for assessing property taxes, however the Platte County Treasurer's Office collects the taxes.

Coroner

The Coroner’s Office is the legal / medical office mandated by the Statutes of the State of Wyoming to investigate and assist in the determination of the manner and cause of deaths occurring within Platte County. The Coroner directs independent medical and legal investigations of death cases that come under the jurisdiction of the office.

The Engineers office makes recommendations to the County Commission relative to the design and review of infrastructure projects including: road, bridge, pathway, miscellaneous building projects and floodplain management. About County Maintenance:

Pursuant to Wyoming State Statute §18-3-504(a)(iii), the Board of County Commissioners are tasked with providing for the construction and maintenance of county buildings. In order to accomplish this, the Platte County Commissioners supervise a maintenance department who are tasked with providing maintenance to the following County facilities:

  1. County Courthouse (Clerk, Treasurer, Assessor, Circuit Court, District Court, Commissioners) - 800 9th Street, Wheatland
  2. Coleman Building (Public Health & County Attorney) - 718 9th Street, Wheatland
  3. Library - 904 9th Street, Wheatland
  4. U.W. Ag. Extension Office - 57 Antelope Gap Road, Wheatland

The County's Maintenance Department is staffed by Jim DeWitt, Supervisor, who has served Platte County since 2014 and Valentin Lopez who has served Platte County since 2005.

Our mission breaks down into 9 services or programs, which comprise what we actually do in and for the community:

  • Communicable Disease—Immunizations, TB screening and follow-up, HIV/STD testing and case management, Infectious Disease investigation and follow up.
  • Maternal & Child Health—Programs to help families have healthy pregnancy outcomes, healthy babies and kids, and support healthy development to give our children the best possible start in life.
  • Chronic Disease—Wellness programs and education to help people stay healthy, and support for those with chronic disease conditions.
  • Community Health Assessment & Planning—With other county agencies, we work to identify barriers to health and wellbeing and plan to overcome these obstacles for all community members.
  • Public Health Emergency Preparedness—Preparation to respond to bioterrorism, exposure to infectious agents, and other public health emergencies.
  • LT-101's—Assessments of client functional level for Medicaid waiver.
  • Education & Outreach—Getting information out about health, health-risks, and access to healthcare is a part of all public health does.
  • Environmental Health—In cooperation with other county agencies, we strive to identify & investigate possible health hazards, and provide referrals, support and education.
  • Community Prevention—Programs to help prevent substance abuse/misuse, underage drinking, tobacco cessation, and suicide prevention.

The Platte County Sheriff's Office is dedicated to the protection of the people of Platte County and the professional enforcement of local, state, and federal laws. In accomplishing our mission, the men and women of the Sheriff's Office, who are themselves members of the community, will provide prompt and efficient response to those they serve. The Platte County Sheriff's Office values public trust and the confidence of our citizens. The Sheriff is the Chief Executive and Administrator of the Sheriff's Office. He oversees the Patrol Division, the Detention Division, and the Communication Division. The Platte County Sheriff serves as an elected official, with a four-year term. The Platte County Sheriff’s Office is comprised of 25 sworn law enforcement officers, 7 communication officers, 7 civilian personnel serving a county that encompasses approximately 2,008 square miles.
