Sheriff David Russell - Platte County Sheriff
Sheriff David Russell has proudly served as the elected Sheriff of Platte County since 2023. Raised in Wheatland and a longtime resident of Platte County, David and his wife, Rebecca, are raising their three children in the same community he calls home.
David’s educational journey began at Saint John's University in Minnesota, where he started his degree and met Rebecca. After moving back to Wheatland to start a family, David completed his bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice with a focus on Homeland Security and Emergency Management through Colorado Technical University while working at the Platte County Sheriff’s Office. He further advanced his education by earning a Master’s Degree in Law Enforcement and Public Safety Leadership from the University of San Diego, also through online studies. David is currently working toward his PhD in Criminal Justice at Liberty University.
Throughout his career, Sheriff Russell has accumulated numerous certifications, including Training Officer, Custody and Control Instructor, Less Lethal Instructor, Firearms Instructor, and K9 Deputy. He has served in multiple roles, including Deputy Sheriff, Detention Administrator, Park Ranger for Wyoming State Parks, and worked for the Wheatland Police Department.
Sheriff Russell is honored to serve the community he grew up in and is deeply committed to protecting and serving the people of Platte County. Under his leadership, the quality of services provided to the people of Platte County is maintained at the highest level, ensuring that law enforcement, public safety, and community partnerships continue to thrive.
